By now you probably realize that tile roofing is similar to a tile in a bathroom. It can fade, and be beset with mildew and mold even. Sometimes it can crack too. The basic idea is that painting the tile actually will rejuvenate it.
For, if you have tile roofing, it is a great asset in many ways. Not only is it a great-looking material, but it has been known to last for decades, or a lifetime. In other words, at some point, you may have to paint the tile to keep it looking great and in good working shape.

Tile roofing may have a steep pitch. Because of the overall height of a roof combined with the actually roof slant (or pitch), roof harnesses and special safety equipment are a must.
Because of the delicacy of the tile, and its shape, making your way on the tile involves extra steps and planning. For one, you will need a walkway that you will uplift and move throughout the project. It is necessary to make an overlay, so you have space from which to work while painting the roofing. Many roofers suggest plywood with some underlay grip the roof.
Did you know that there is even a proper protocol for setting up the ladder for a roofing project? Well, it requires steps that are securely planted on the ground, but that also extend feet above the roof gutters.
The harness wraps around the channel and to the ladder and back for a full loop. Before refinishing the tile with a fresh coat of paint, walk the roof to check for broken tiles, cracked tiles, and any debris was sitting up there.
Preparing The Roof
At this point, it is time to cover up any vents, accessories, metal, and vents that will not be painted. Typically, paper or preferably plastic should be taped securely over places you do not want to be painted. If there is any rust, simply spray with a rust remover.
Time To Tidy Up
Before painting, it is next time to clean the roofing material. Get a pressure washer hose up there to remove debris, dust, and caked on dirt. Be careful not to get the water up and under tiles, because it can cause water damage to your home. Once the power washing is complete, allow the roof time to dry thoroughly.
From there, ensure that you paint only when the weather is not calling for rain or other precipitation. The idea is to paint and have time to dry before any rainfall.
At this point, you are ready to give a coat of primer to the roof. Start at the top of the ceiling, working in a sweeping motion back and forth approximately 12 inches away from the roofing. Once the primer has dried then you are ready to go for it with the paint. Allow to dry.
